                                                                           Blog 4:

One of the entry's in the packet I found the most the most fun to read was "The letter from home" The short describes numerous things going on vivid detail. The author describes what she's doing as well as what she hears and what's going on around her. I think the sounds she chose were very unique. "The Stairs Creaked" "The fridge hummed" At one point she even mentions her own heart beat "Thud, Thud. She describes an entire scene with just detail.

The author does a good job of putting your senses to work when you read. As you read you can almost hear the sounds she describes, and the things she does "I ate my food, I chewed each mouthful thirty two times, I swallowed." She describes scene's of waves, boats and horizons. Its pretty cool how she can create am entire story with just simple detail of what's going on. Almost like she was writing as she saw what was happening.

The passage made me think of the chapter in "Breaking down the bones" where the author talks about detail and how it can dull or give light to the writing. There was also a section in the book where she mentioned writing to be like baking a cake and details being the ingredients. (A few people mention this in class) This helps paint a better picture for your audience and also helps them keep track of what's going on in the story, poem etc.
